How to Effectively Use Facebook Lists

Facebook Lists

Listen to this blog by clicking the PLAY button below. Bonus tips included in audio.

Facebook isn’t all drama and chaos. It can really be a wonderful tool for your business whether you are a social media influencer, small business owner, entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur. Facebook is the LARGEST social site out there. With so many people, it’s hard to keep track UNLESS you use Facebook Lists.

I am a BIG fan of Facebook Lists. Though I do have a business page, I do not have a VIP customer group BECAUSE I utilize Facebook Lists. My two personal challenges: horrible memory and I’m a bit of an introvert. I don’t like being pushy either.

Once I learned about and implemented the lists, I noticed not only were more of my friends requests accepted but I also received more friend requests and higher engagement and conversions on my posts.

Benefits of using Facebook Lists:

More effective marketing and communication (you’re only speaking to those who are interested):

  • Control who sees each posts (public, friends and lists)
  • No more bugging family members
  • Not annoying like unsolicited Facebook group “invites”
  • Less intimidating than asking new friend if they’d be interested in joining
  • Educate/entertain certain groups
  • Follow-up
  • Keep in touch
  • Build relationships with new friends
  • No competing with business pages or groups
  • Could be less time consuming than managing a group

Where to Find Facebook Lists

If you are using a computer or PC, you can find Facebook Lists by following these steps:

  1. When you are visiting someone’s profile, you’ll have four options near their name: Friends, Following, Message and More Options (3 dots).
  2. Click of Friends and you’ll see a drop down including Close Friends, Acquaintances, Add to another list, Suggest Friends or Unfriend.
  3. Next “Add to another list.”Facebook Lists on Web
  4. Then “New List” to create your own. You can title it whatever you want. Friends do not see the name of the custom list. Add Facebook Lists on Web

Once you have created a new Friend List, you can view posts specifically from friends on that list. Follow these steps to see the list:

  1. After you log-in to Facebook, from the main page, look down at the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Under the Explore section, click on Friend List
  3. Select the desired list and you will only see posts from those on this list.Facebook Lists
Note: as you see, there is an option to create more lists even if you are not on the friend’s profile.

Yes, you can still use this feature on your mobile device.

How to Find Lists on Mobile:

  1. Go to the person’s profile.
  2. You’ll see the option to click on Friends, Following, Message or More Options (like desktop mode).
  3. Click on Friends.Facebook Mobile Lists
  4. Next, click on Edit Friend List to add the friend to a specific listNote: creating a new List is not an option at this stage in the mobile application.

How to View the Newsfeed for Each List in Mobile Application

  1. Click the three horizontal bars in the application for the Menu
  2. Scroll down until you see Feeds.
  3. Depending on your lists, you may be able to see the one at the top. If not, click “See All.”

Final words: Now that you have your lists set up, speak to each audience individually. Tailor your messages appropriately. Don’t post a bunch of spam regardless of the lists. Remember, add a call-to-action if you’d like them to take an additional such as ‘liking’ your business page or join your Facebook group.

3 Reasons Why You Aren’t Getting Any Engagement on Facebook Posts

Listen to this blog by pressing the PLAY button below.

Let’s face it. Social media is one of the most cost-effective ways to build your brand or business online. I focus primarily on Facebook but these tips can be applied to most social media accounts.

It’s less expensive than radio, television and billboard advertisements but even more effective. Think about it, when most consumers hear a commercial they either listen, mute or turn to another station to avoid it. What do you do when you hear the commercial? Are you eager to hear it? Probably not and that accounts for most consumers.

However, most people check at least one social media account everyday with their undivided attention. Then there are people like me who are practically glued to their cell phones —- checking Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn while commuting to work, at work, eating dinner or even sitting down to watch a movie.

As such, some entrepreneurs have either switched to social media to save or grow their businesses online. Social media can be a wonderful addition to your current marketing strategy.

Yes, social media, used properly, can help local businesses and entrepreneurs reach not just local customers, but national and even international customers!

Who doesn’t want to put new eyes on their business, right?

So what happens when most new entrepreneurs or soon-to-be entrepreneurs step into the online world of social media marketing or social selling?

If they don’t have a social media strategy, oftentimes, they fail.

It’s not as easy as maxing out your friend’s list or connections. This is one of the BIGGEST mistakes made. An audience with no target is the same as no audience. The focus should always be QUALITY over QUANTITY.

Now let’s get into why you aren’t getting any engagement on your posts.

Assuming that:

  1. You ARE active on social media, meaning you interact with other’s content and reply to comments left on your content
  2. You have a good-sized audience of at least 500 friends/fans/connections/followers

If you have 5,000 friends/followers/fans/connections but struggling to get 5 “likes”, there is a HUGE disconnect here and you should pay extreme attention to what I’m about to say.

Most accounts lack engagement because of two factors:

  1. Target audience unknown
  2. Lack content marketing strategy to engage target market

Top three reasons why you aren’t getting any engagement on Facebook:

  1. Dead Audience

    • No longer on social media
    • Switched social media platforms
    • Have another social media account
    • Doesn’t check social media regularly
  2. Wrong Audience

    • Didn’t branch out to find new following
    • Added random followers
  3. Wrong Content

    • Not creating any content specific to target audience needs
    • Not sharing relevant content
      • Too many cute cat videos
      • Too many recipes
    • Content not consistent with brand
    • Too spammy
    • Too negative/controversial
    • Too fake

Tying back into the comment earlier about lacking a social media strategy. Each social media platform is different but a general rule of thumb is that you should be engaging with your audience at least ONCE per day.

If you cannot commit to once per day, but looking to grow your business using social media, consider hiring an outside firm to manage your social media accounts.

What can you do to improve your engagement?

First thing is to review your profile to determine if you are repelling potential clients/customers.

Clean up any negative items.

Get rid of dead audience – this may take some time

    1. Install a Chrome extension that analyzes your social media account and suggests friends to remove – this is usually done by seeing who is the least active connection
    2. Go through your friends list/contacts and remove if:
    • You’ve reached out to them and they don’t respond
    • You can’t connect with their content
    • They’re too negative

Determine how you want to brand yourself

Only post content consistent with your brand

NOTE: if you have relevant content and a good audience but still lack engagement, look at the times that you are posting. Studies show that posts over the weekend and during the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. receive more views and shares.

New Facebook Status Update Feature: Lists

New Facebook Feature: Lists

How to Use New Lists Feature for Your Business and Personal Brand

Hello! Happy Friday!

So today, we have a little Facebook tip. It’s actually a new feature that they just rolled out. Personally, I noticed it last night (2/15/18). I think they rolled it out about two or three days ago. And of course, people are like “oh my goodness! Another way for Facebook to be intrusive.”

However, if you are using Facebook to build a business or a personal brand, I think that this could be genius! So the new feature is called Facebook List.

How to Find It

Now, this should not be confused with your friends list or even that list inside of your friends list. This is completely different.

So let’s talk about how to find it.

If you are creating a new post, it says “what’s on your mind” — click that box.

Note: Now one thing that I have noticed is that depending on the mobile device, you may not have it. However, it is on the web. If you are using a computer/tablet, you should be able to find it. They are rolling it out slowly. I noticed that I’ve been able to use or create a list on my personal profile as well as my fan page. But I have not been able to do so in a group so I don’t know if it’s going to roll out to groups or not.

If you do have access to this new feature, I highly suggest that you use it.

Click the “what’s on your mind” as if you were creating a new post. You should see the drop down like you’ve been seeing lately with options such as “how are you feeling/ activity/sticker” or if you want to go live or create a background color.

Scroll down and you’ll see list. Now that’s right below the new feature of tag event. We’ll cover that in another post.

New Facebook Feature “List” Explained

Once you click to create a list, it’s going to give you sample lists that you can use. The idea is to make things a little bit more personal and help your friends, family and new friends get to know you a little bit better. So some common examples that they use here are:

  • things most people don’t know about me
  • reasons I love my friends
  • friends who can always make me laugh
  • my biggest pet peeves
  • my plans for the weekend
  • what I love about my best friend
  • items I never leave home without
  • moments I wish I could relive
  • bucket list
  • places I want to travel

I believe there’s a long list.

You are looking at my screen shot so it will probably change over the course of time.

This is a great way for your friends and family to get to know you. Yes and it may seem a little bit intrusive; however, one of the complaints that I’ve heard about Facebook is the fact that it has become so antisocial — which is crazy for a social media platform, right?

But some people really don’t know who their friends are and a lot of it has to do with the common advertisements from businesses or people that have small home based businesses. It just seems like one ad after the next and there is really no connection there between friends.

This new tool —List— can help people get to know you better. Now if you’re thinking to yourself: “I am not about to open up and share my deepest, darkest secrets.” That is great! I am not advising that you do that!

How to Use Facebook Lists for Your Business

When I first noticed this feature yesterday, it said “little things that make me smile.”

Now you know I love makeup and skincare. When I tested it out, the first thing that I put was all about makeup such as when I don’t stab myself applying eyeliner, when my eyebrows look more like sisters (all makeup humor). It’s about my personal brand —being in the cosmetics industry.

Here is how you can actually use it for your business:

If you look again, at the top of the Create List feature, you’ll see that it says “create a list with your own title.”

You can use this regardless of the industry that you are in.

Examples:

  • If you are in event planning, you can make up a little list of things that you’ve noticed that can make an event more successful or things to look for when you are looking for an event planner.

  • If you are in real estate, you can start giving tips about how to pick the perfect home, how to make your home winter ready or how to prepare it for the summer.

  • If you are in skincare, you can give quick skincare tips.

I personally love this feature!

I included a personal example that I used and of course, it has a call-to-action to bring them back to my blog.

The list was about how to make your eye shadow pop.

The reason why I love this is because one way to stand out when you’re creating your personal brand is to create value.

Now the thing is with Facebook or any social media, people like quick reads.

Of course, sometimes when you give out value, it can get very lengthy but a short list or checklist is so much easier and quicker to read BUT it could also be very action-packed.

It can also open up the doors to establish you as an authority in your field and have people reaching out to you for your assistance.

You don’t have to use it on a personal note and open up about your deepest darkest secrets but you can use this to build your personal brand, establish yourself as an authority and provide valuable content to your target market.

So I hope you guys enjoyed this. If you do have this feature, share with me your thoughts and how it’s helped your business or maybe if it hasn’t. I would still love to hear your feedback.

Using LinkedIn To Grow Your Business

Hi everyone!

I hope you all are staying warm. Just wanted to share something that I’ve been up to lately.

I guess you all know by now, Facebook is my favorite platform BUT I’m also on LinkedIn. Being snowed in, I decided to introduce myself to some of my LinkedIn Friends/Connections. I have over 2,100. No, I didn’t know them beforehand. I simply sent connection requests and they accepted or vice versa.

I am a LION meaning I’ll accept all requests. It literally stands for LinkedIn Open Networker.

Sometimes I’ll share a blog there, maybe not lol

As I said, it’s really not my preferred BUT I believe that it has great potential.

Think about it. When you think of LinkedIn, you think of professionals — people with good work ethics, understanding of long-term vision and love the opportunity to make more money. The average household income is about $100,000 so rarely will you have objections over $25.

Just like Facebook, there’s a way to export all of your connections (you’ll even have the opportunity to get their email addresses). This could be great for really getting their attentions. For this experiment, I kept it simple and just sent a message straight to their inbox using the LinkedIn platform.

I sent a message saying hello, telling them I’d like to learn more about them and wishing them well. NO AVON. In my signature, I included link to my blog. The homepage on my blog says what I do and my interests.

I have three people that replied wanting to learn more about me and my business so we’ve scheduled phone calls for next week.

I believe LinkedIn has so much potential and even lower competition.

I’d love for you all to give it a try. If so, try to introduce yourself to all of your connections (set a goal to message X per day) OR go out in LinkedIn groups and make new connections!

Facebook Live Video is So Overrated!

The key to successful social media marketing is not only staying abreast and adapting to technical changes or advancements but it’s also finding your voice and strengthening it. I personally HATE Live Facebook videos for so many reasons! Do I feel they can help some people? Yes but they are not for everyone — I happen to be part of the rising number.

Here’s why I hate Facebook Live Video:

  1. Time-consuming – I can’t fast-forward to the meat
  2. Pushed down our throats – I literally have multiple friends all going live at once, I’d have to try to figure out who’s really talking about something and not just pushing their business
  3. Can’t multitask – no I won’t be pressing a 1, 2, 3 or whatever else you instruct me to do because I probably won’t even be holding my phone
  4. Too salesy – Facebook has now even included a way to mark the video as spam WHILE it’s occurring so obviously many others have a problem with this as well

At the time of this audio, I didn’t realize Gary Vaynerchuk had made a blog months ago about the same thing. I was in the process of uploading the audio to this blog and saw he made a Facebook post today addressing the same thing. If you’d like to check out his article, please read The Rise of Audio & Voice.

Gary explains it from a numbers perspective and I’m explaining it from more of a psychological/consumer standpoint.

I think it’s the perfect example of “if it doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense.” LOL lame humor, I know — we’re all allowed to have our moment.

Alternatives to Facebook Live Video:

  1. Facebook Live Audio – let’s users know they don’t have to give undivided attention
  2. Blog
  3. Podcast
  4. Webinar
  5. Downloadable PDFs
  6. Conference Call
  7. Facebook/Instagram/SnapChat stories — usually shorter in length so you get to the point and get audience engaged
  8. YouTube

Anyway, I’m curious, what’s your color code? Take the test here and share  your results with me!

How to Market Multiple Businesses at Once on Social Media: linktree

Instagram is not one of my favorite platforms. Maybe that’s me admitting that I’m getting older but it’s all pictures and videos. People don’t really want to connect. They just follow to unfollow in hopes that you’ll follow them back. So superficial! Most people just scroll through and double tap the picture to like it without even reading the content. I’m more of a content person. I enjoy writing and also reading what others have written. I know you’ve seen the “Great Post” reply in several comment sections — clearly not reading what the author took the time to write; however, Instagram is still one of the main social media platforms out.

LinkTree
My Personal linktree

Every blue moon, I’ll find myself heading over to Instagram to get my makeup fix 🙂 If you’re new to Instagram, you may not have noticed this but once you click on the person’s profile, there is a section to enter a business link. Most people will use it to add their YouTube channel, blog, e-commerce site, etc. It’s a genius too! You can showcase your pictures, knowledge or service and never have to repeat adding your link to each post. If a person is interested, they can click on the link and it takes them directly to your website.

The problem many professionals run into is that it only allows for one link. Ugh! What if you have two — blog and YouTube or someone like me who has at least 5? You have to give preference to one or try to be clever and include a link in your bio as well. Hey! Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Lately, I noticed quite a few profiles all had an extension of “https://linktr.ee.” I finally decided to click one and saw that it had a list of all of their websites!

OMG! Are you kidding me? I knew that there were other services out but I was surprised to find out that it was FREE. Yep, it’s free for the most common type of user. If you want to remove their logo and get more templates, it’s $6 per month.

What is it called?

linktree

Is it easy to use?

Yep! That’s actually why I’m suggesting it!

Am I late to the party?

Yep! Apparently, it’s been out for about a year now. Better late than never!

How long did it take to set up?

Literally about 5 minutes.

What do you need?

You can sign up on your computer or anywhere you have access to the internet. No app download required.

Do I need to have an Instagram account?

Yes.

Can I use it outside of Instagram?

Yep. Once you join, you have your custom URL located on the righthand side of the screen. You can share that URL anywhere including Facebook.

What is your personal recommendation?

I personally love Facebook (just to throw it out there). For any social media site, I suggest removing ALL links on your profile and having just this one. In my opinion, it looks cleaner and more professional. Sometimes, friends or newcomers see so many links on your profile and get discouraged, don’t know which one is relevant to them or that you are partaking in too many ventures.

With linktree, it gives you the opportunity to describe each of the links.

Most people won’t come to you. They like to do their own independent research. Don’t let clutter on your profile deter them!

If you are not using a service, I suggest you try linktree. If you already have a service in use, I suggest that you make sure to include all of your links on the service and only post that one link!

Does it really work?

I’d say so. I just signed up late Saturday evening, February 3, 2018, and according to my blog, linktree comes in second place for referrers — search engines are #1 and Facebook followed immediately afterwards.

I believe a lot of it has to do with curiosity. With such a vague link, people are intrigued and want to find out more.

How to optimize it?

Make sure that you have a squeeze page or lead capture page included. This allows you to gain visitor’s email/phone/social media so you have a way to follow up with them. Many people will just click and leave but if you have an offer they can’t refuse, you’ll begin to build your e-mail list and turn those visitors into customers (or whatever you goal is at the time).

Hope that helps!

Automate Your Processes: Run Your Business On AutoPilot

Ways to Make Money Using Technology to Automate Your Business

Before we cover one of my favorite ways to make money online, it’s imperative that we cover why you should be thinking about relying more on technology.

Actual story:

A little over 2 years ago, I was looking for a business opportunity.

I reached out to two different ladies to learn more about the industry. It was new to me so I didn’t know much. Neither one of them had anything they could forward over for me to review. They both insisted we meet in-person. Ok cool, right??? One lady had kids and had to check her calendar. I  reached out to the other and told her I’d drive to the ‘burbs to meet her which was almost a 2 hour drive. She said ok and never heard anything back. It took them months to follow up with me but by that time, it was too late.

When I make up my mind, I go for it. I know what I want and I don’t wait on anyone else. They’re probably kicking themselves. In order for people to take you seriously, you need to conduct yourself in a seriously. You can’t say you’re ready to make money and let this fine piece of money walk right out the door🤣🤣🤣

No seriously, I learned from it. When I launched my business, I did not take it seriously. My goal was to have fun on the weekends . After the feds reached out about student loans, I knew I needed other ways to make money lol

Then, I came to the conclusion that I would take the business seriously. I decided that I would NOT do the same thing as the other ladies. As a result, I made sure to respond to everyone who inquired ASAP. Literally, I’d hear my phone vibrate, stop everything and respond. Because I was dealing with people in different time zones, I was literally losing sleep trying to respond fast enough.

My advice to you:

If you are an entrepreneur or considering it, you should be looking at ways to automate your business. Seriously, at 12 a.m., 1 a.m., 4 a.m. and all other weird times, I have people coming in to learn more about working with me. I’m at the point now where I’m not going to wake from my sleep to answer those initial inquiries or have a car accident trying to hurry and respond.

Let’s work smarter, not harder. I have an autoresponder that sends an email on my behalf so no matter what time they email, they at least hear something from me. They receive a series of emails with the opportunity to schedule a call with me.

If you’re just getting started with internet marketing, we like to call this e-mail marketing.  When inquiries come in, you can send them a welcome email. If they never open the email, you can send another. If they clicked on the link but didn’t purchase, you can send them a follow-up. These are all events going on in the background while you can be focusing on more revenue producing activities. Stop chasing people who aren’t clear on their decision. Only talk to serious prospects.

No more forgetting to follow-up. No more tackling new contacts as soon as you wake up. No more wasting time on people that forever consider and never take action.

Goal:

Part of being an entrepreneur is learning to become more efficient. Most technology is cheap or free. If you’re just getting started, don’t let technology be the reason why you haven’t done something. Use it to empower you and strengthen your business.

Start Making the Business Work for You and Create More Ways to Make Money!

Eventually, the goal should be to work smarter not harder.

As an entrepreneur or home-based business owner, one of your main goals is probably freedom or flexibility.

You want to get to the point where you only have to “work” when needed. What’s the point of saying you’re an entrepreneur if you’re working 80 hours a week, responding to leads who just want to kick tires or answering the same questions over and over again?

You should be looking at ways to automate the business. Yes, you can actually be generating leads and sales in your sleep!

There is a solution for this: create content once and direct inquiries to the content. This builds your e-mail list.

Now we’re talking about building a serious business. It requires an investment but the return is worth it!

You see the photos of people on beaches, in jets or otherwise, telling you how much their life is better than yours.

Guess what? They’re still working! They’ve just automated the process so they can take time out and do the things they enjoy. More than likely, once they figured this out, they started looking for ways to make money or diversify their income. Thus, when one business drifts off, they’re still making money.

How do they do it?

By creating opt-ins, lead magnets, or lead capture pages and sales funnels with autoresponders.

The jist of e-mail marketing and how it’s one of online marketers favorite ways to make money:

OMG! Opt-ins? Funnels? Capture pages? Autoresponders? I know this may seem a little intimidating, right? Let’s break it down and explain how online marketers use these systems to improve or enhance their ways of making money.

The jist: people get something of value in exchange for their contact info (name, e-mail or maybe phone number).

How do online marketers make it possible:

– They had an issue and figured out a solution OR

– They’ve been asked the same question multiple times (probably from putting in the work that was covered in my original e-mail)

– Created a blog/website to answer those questions

– Now with their same messages they used before to attract/gain leads, they’re adding an extra sentence to direct people to the lead capture form or if people inquire, they direct to the lead capture form

– They’ll also begin targeting and paying for traffic to draw in more people

– People who submit contact info will receive the answer they’ve already prewritten as well as a series of follow-up e-mails

– Throughout the course of time, the e-mails will help build relationships so people know/like/trust them

Don’t worry!

You don’t need much technical know-how to do this; there are companies that help you create lead capture pages and sales funnels or e-mail automation series. Some companies make it so that you simply edit the form to input your information.

Yes, it requires some investment but not nearly as much as you think! Also, think about how much time it will free up for you!

You can build a FREE lead capture page with e-mail autoresponder series using MailChimp.

There are some other services that offer capture pages if you’d like to take a look:

Aweber  — offers free trial
Get Response — offers free trial

I personally use MailChimp but I encourage you to test them out and see what works best for you!

Don’t just stop at the capture page!

Once you create a lead capture page, MailChimp gives you a URL so you can direct users directly to the site to input their information. The URL is very long, not pretty and hard to remember.

One of the cheapest sources I’ve been able to buy domain names from is NameCheap.  I use NameCheap to purchase a domain for about $1-4 and then redirect the traffic to the lead capture page. It masks the long, ugly URL that MailChimp provides. Also, I use it for my company’s replicated website. Think: it’s easier for people to remember the company’s website versus mine which has the company’s domain plus my unique representative ID.

Now, with traffic coming in and my e-mail series established, my business runs while I’m sleep, walking the dog or watching Lifetime Movie Network 🙂

I only spend my time on calls or texting people who have received information from me and are serious about getting started or I spend my time mentoring my current team.

Occasionally, I have to respond to customers; however, this is far and few in between as my opportunity sends follow-up marketing e-mails daily to existing customers.

When should you consider lead capture pages, e-mail marketing or messenger bots?

I know some may disagree but I suggest only once you’re making a profit with your business. It doesn’t cost much to start a business online. Recoup your investment, turn a profit and reinvest the profit back into the business! At least break even so you can see the proof of concept. You become a believer and you can confidently back what you are selling or trying to promote. Automation is more of creating passive income which is why I say build it later. If you are in dire need of money, do the legwork — actively build. If you have additional money, then you can invest in paid ads to speed up the process.

Now what?

You now have an e-mail list. With this list, you can increase your ways to make money by offering special training, new business, affiliate marketing, or network marketing. First, deepen the relationship by providing the desired information and then prompting them to connect with you via joining your Facebook group,  Facebook messenger, subscribing to YouTube channel or adding you on another social media account. You want more than one way to connect with them. People  check social media more than they do e-mails BUT don’t give up on e-mail.

Remember, the list is yours to keep AND one of the biggest advantages is that if social media were to ever cease to exist, you still have all of your hard work and their contact information! Think: what would you do if they shut Facebook down or you lost your account? You’d have to start over from scratch IF you don’t have any way to get in contact with them.

As an entrepreneur, you should be looking at the long-term strategy if you want to increase your ways to make money. With your e-mail list, you can market any of your additional services or products and keep in touch to build repeat customers or launch another business!
